‘I worry that today’s public discourse is deterring young people, researchers and influencers from participating in the democratic debate’, remarks Minister of Research and Higher Education Henrik Asheim (Conservative Party). The Government has appointed a committee to examine how to protect employees’ academic freedom of expression. Researcher and lawyer Anine Kierulf will chair the committee. When asked by Morgenbladet about the greatest threat to academic freedom in Norway, she responds: ‘The biggest threat is always the system for research funding.
