Fresh numbers from the Database for Statistics on Higher Education (DBH) show that the national failure rate decreased from 7 per cent in spring 2019 to 5.4 per cent in spring 2020. According to DBH figures, which go back to 1989, this is the lowest failure rate ever recorded. It is also the largest percentage drop from one year to another. Dag Rune Olsen, head of Universities Norway, believes this is related to Covid-19 and the fact that students use more time to study. “A number of subjects transitioned to pass/fail. This may have affected the results”, he tells Forskerforum.
