This year’s collective bargaining agreement has led to a wage increase for public employees as of 1 October this year. The majority will receive a salary increase between NOK 1300 and 5800 per year, with academic staff in the higher numbers. The trade union federations Unio, LO and YS have a collective agreement, while the Federation of Norwegian Professional Associations (Akademikerne) negotiate on their own. With the same percentual wage increase, higher earners will experience the greatest pay raise. In order to mitigate the differences, this year’s wage increase is divided into two. Incomes below NOK 564,000 will be given a 0.54 per cent raise, while higher incomes will increase by 0.44 per cent. Due to initial disagreements, the National Mediator of Norway had to step in to negotiate a solution. After three days of intensive arbitration, the parties reached an agreement. “The result of the arbitration is not something we rejoice over, but it is an acceptable result for our members”, says Unio’s negotiator Guro Elisabeth Lind.
