Taking the Research Council to task

Benedikte Moltumyr Høgberg, professor at UiO’s Department of Public and International Law, is not afraid of raising her voice. In January, she harshly reprimanded the Norwegian Research Council: ‘Today’s guidelines and incentives are based on two costly principles: bureaucracy and Hobbes’ state of nature.’ Talking to Forskerforum, she states that the application criteria lead to a huge number of poor projects. The Council’s representative, Fridtjof Fossum Unander, finds much of the criticism unjustified. ‘We must ensure that funded research is on a par with international developments.’
