‘It is important to learn that there is a world outside of academia’

The White Paper on labour relevance, published by the government on 12 March, includes a proposal for PhD candidates to replace teaching with practical training outside of academia. ‘It can be a good thing that instead of teaching you do a semester of practice. During a normal fellowship period, you only get input from academia, not from production or commercial companies’, says Yannik Schneider, head of the Association of Doctoral Organisations in Norway. ‘It is important to learn that there is a world outside of academia.’
